Keynote Address: Overview of the Oil, Gas & Energy Industry
En Mohamed Firouz Asnan is currently the Senior Vice President of Malaysia Petroleum Management, the Upstream Business of PETRONAS. He was appointed to this role in June 2019.
He graduated with a Bachelor in Civil Engineering from the University of Southwestern Louisiana and holds a Master of Business Administration from Massachusetts Institute of Technology as a Sloan Fellow.
En Firouz joined PETRONAS in 1989 as a facilities engineer in the Exploration & Production Division. Throughout the 33 years of his career in PETRONAS, he has progressed through a series of domestic and international assignments spanning both Upstream and Downstream businesses, including stints in the corporate centre.
In his previous role as the Senior Vice President of Corporate Strategy from July 2017 to March 2019, he was instrumental in setting up the New Energy business of PETRONAS as part of the strategy to future-proof the organisation.
Presently, Firouz sits on the boards of several PETRONAS subsidiaries including Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS and PETRONAS LNG Sdn Bhd. He also chairs PETRONAS’ venture capital outfit, PTV International Ventures Ltd. In addition, he serves on the board of Malaysia-Thailand Joint Authority (MTJA) and IOGP (International Association of Oil & Gas Producers).
Being a registered professional engineer and a member of the Institution of Engineers, Malaysia, En Firouz is passionate about understanding the actual problem first before going about solving it.
Dr Afiza binti Idris

Speaker for Paper 1: How can National Energy Policy (NEP) transform the Malaysian Energy Landscape especially in new growth areas that will benefit Industry Players?
DR. AFIZA BINTI IDRIS is currently the Director of Energy Division, Ministry of Economy
(previously EPU). Her portfolios include leading formulation of national policies on energy including the oil and gas sector, devise strategies and initiatives in the Five Year Development
Plan for the sustainable development of the energy sector, and promote development of the national oil and gas industry.
Dr. Afiza Idris began her career in the Malaysian civil service in 2000 as a Diplomatic and Administrative Officer. Upon completion of her civil service training and obtaining her Diploma
in Public Management from National Institute of Public Management, she was assigned to the Economics and International Division, Ministry of Finance. Her next assignment was at the Services Industry Section, Economic Planning Unit (EPU, JPM), where she spent almost 10 years handling issues on services industry development such as formulation of services sector blueprint, services sector liberalisation, financial and capital market, venture capital, tourism etc.
She obtained her Master’s degree in Economics at the Universiti Putra Malaysia in 2008 and completed her Ph.D. at the University Putra Malaysia in 2021. Her research specialisation was
in trade policy, innovation and export survival. Prior to her current assignment, Dr. Afiza was the Deputy Director of Environment and Natural Resources Economic Division, Economic Planning
Unit (EPU), where her portfolios included assisting in formulation of policies and strategies as
well as allocation of development expenditure for the environment sector and coordinating
efforts for sustainable development goals (SDG).
Suresh Sinnappu

Suresh is the Subsurface Consulting, Product Line Director of Oilfield Services in APAC for Baker Hughes, based in KL, Malaysia. He assumed this position in March 2021 and is responsible for transforming the core of Baker Hughes subsurface team and position the company as an energy transition technology leader in the region.
In his previous role, Suresh was the OFS Country Leader for Malaysia, driving customer value through safe execution, technology & operations excellence.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in Microelectronics & Computer Engineering from the Technology University of Malaysia.
Suresh is a member of Baker Hughes Women’s Network Malaysia, a Steering Committee Member of the Petronas-Baker Hughes D18 Alliance & serving his 2nd term as SPE Asia Pacific Regional Technical Advisory Committee Member.

Ramanrao Abdullah

Mr. Ramanrao bin Abdullah (Rao) is the Group Chief Executive Officer of Deleum and Executive Director on the Board since July 2021.
Mr. Rao's experience spanning more than 26 years have all been in Halliburton, across the Finance, Business Development and Operation workstreams before becoming Chief Executive Officer of Halliburton Asia Pacific and subsequently Vice President of Business Development for Asia Pacific and Asian National Oil Companies for their Global Operations.
Mr. Rao’s uniquely diverse competencies in the oil and gas corporate and regulatory frameworks in Malaysia and globally, coupled with his chartered accountant training, has enabled him to contribute to the larger industry as a Council Member of the Malaysian Gas Association (MGA), adjunct lecturer of Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) and his recent appointment as Executive Committee Member of International Petroleum Technology Conference (IPTC) 2023. He previously served on the Research Advisory of UTP and the Advisory Council for Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Asia Pacific.
Ts. Anwarudin Saidu Mohamed

Ts Anwarudin is currently the Executive Director & Chief Technology Officer at Reservoir Link Energy Bhd spearheading the business growth in key areas in aspiration of building progressive corporation providing global solutions in upstream O&G and Energy market.
Previously he had served various Multinational and National organizations both in Service Segment and Hydrocarbon Producers. He had been an active member of Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) since 2004. He is currently the SPE KL section Chairman and the recipient of the 2014 Asia Pacific Region Outstanding Young Member Award, 2018 Regional Service Award, 2020 Public Service Award and 2021 Technical Award for Production Operations. He is the member of SPE Asia Pacific Regional Technical Advisory Committee. He also the current Honorary Secretary of Malaysia Oil and Gas Service Council and Founding Member/Treasurer/ Board Member of Petroleum & Energy Cooperative Berhad. In the capacity of MOGSC, he actively advocates for sustainability of OGSE ecosystem. He was very active in advocating to spur innovation and commercialization culture among OGSE players and founded a platform for various stakeholders to elevate local innovators via OGSE innovation Award.
He is a registered member of BEM and Professional Technologist and assessor registered with
MBOT. He is also board member of Trustee of PETRONAS University of Technology. He also serves as Industry Advisory Panellist for UiTM, UniKL, UMP, UCSI and UTP. He actively shares Industry best practices to young generation as an Adjunct Lecturer in University of Malaya and UTP. Ts Anwarudin holds B.sc (Hons) Mechanical with minor in petroleum from UTP and Msc in Petroleum Engineering from Imperial College London.
Throughout 18 years of his experience in Oil and Gas industry, he had developed various
technologies in the sector primarily in Hydrocarbon Production and Operations. He had published numerous SPE papers, articles, and journals on application of technologies in production operations and sat as publication review committee on various conferences, symposium and workshops. His career experience span across operation management, R&D, application engineering, Sales & Marketing, Corporate strategy, and Business Development.
Aziz Abdul Othman

As President of MGA, Abdul Aziz brings over 36 years of extensive experience and knowledge across the energy sector, particular in the gas industry.
Abdul Aziz has been appointed as the International Gas Union’s Regional Coordinator for South & Southeast Asia to strengthen the region’s position in the global gas industry.
He is currently the Senior Vice President of Gas & Power, PETRONAS and the Managing Director/Chief Executive Offer of PETRONAS Gas Berhad (PGB). He is also a Non-Independent Executive Director at PGB, in addition to directorship in several other companies in PETRONAS.
He started his career in PETRONAS as an engineer at the Peninsular Gas Utilisation Project (PGU), the 2,623km gas transmission pipeline network spanning the entire Peninsular Malaysia owned and operated by PGB.
He was later promoted to head the operations of the cogeneration facilities at PGB before his appointment as the Chief Executive Officer, Vinyl Chloride Malaysia Sdn Bhd.
He then served as the Vice President, Strategy and New Ventures; PETRONAS Energy Canada Limited prior to his current appointment.

Azman is the Regional Director of EIC Asia Pacific based in Kuala Lumpur. He joined EIC, The Energy Industries Council United Kingdom, in 2014 to establish the KL Office and expand EIC’s presence in the region.
As Regional Director for APAC, he has the responsibility to assist company members of The EIC, who are mainly UK and global companies, via EIC’s market intelligence databases and EIC’s regional events such as UK Pavilions, regional energy-related conferences & exhibitions and high-level business networking.
Azman is passionate about all topics related to the energy sector especially the on-going development, trends and progress relating to energy transition and net zero initiatives in the Asia Pacific region.

Ts Syed Saggaf bin Syed Ahmad is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Shapadu Oil and Gas
Division, leading and managing the Group’s interest in Oil, Gas and Energy industry for both upstream and downstream services segments including management of group’s marine assets. He is also the Executive Director for one of the Oil and Gas division’s subsidiary, Shapadu CR Asia Sdn Bhd focusing on downstream maintenance and turnaround works.
He got his early education in English College, Johor Bahru and Sekolah Menengah Sains Muar, Johor. Subsequently, he graduated from Universiti Tenaga Nasional in 2002 with Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering. Upon graduation, he started his career as Mechanical Piping Engineer with Haven Engineering and continued his career with stints at Ramunia Fabricators Sdn Bhd in 2004 and Coral Intoil Sdn Bhd in 2008.
Syed Saggaf has been with Shapadu Group since 2010 where he started as Project Manager. In his time with Shapadu, he was promoted to Senior Project Manager, General Manager, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, before eventually becomes the Chief Executive Officer in January 2017. He now has approximately 20 years experience in the industry, managing major contracts from key clients with an approximate worth of RM 2 billion.
He is the current President of Malaysian Oil, Gas & Energy Services Council (MOGSC) where he plays an important role in engagements with industry stakeholders and players with the objective of creating a sustainable energy ecosystem in Malaysia.
Other than these, he is also the Ambassador of UNITEN Alumni, Vice President of Alumni Sains Muar Association, Board Member of Koperasi Tenaga Petroliam Malaysia and Board Member of Study For Industrial Doctorate Program, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.

Charlotte serves as the Chief Sustainability Officer of PETRONAS, Malaysia leading Fortune 500 company. Since joining in 2021, she has turned the company's Net-Zero Emission aspiration into strategy and plans to drive decarbonisation and social progress. She engages directly in venture capital investment, digitalisation and capability development to accelerate a sustainable energy transition.
Previously, Charlotte worked for Norwegian energy company Equinor in the role of Vice President Sustainabilty. At Equinor, she delivered the comp-any's first sustainability strategy that laid the foundation for the company's low carbon focus. She was also the company's representative on the Oil & Gas Climate Initiative (OGCI), the World Bank's Global Gas Flaring Reduction Initiative (GGFR) and the World Bank Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD). From 2007 to 2014, Charlotte held the position of General Manager Corporate Responsibility for the global steel & mining company Arcelormittal.
Charlotte's earlier experiences include a decade in the telecommunications sector, most notably working for Telefornica and O2, multilateral landing at the Nordic Development Fund, music marketing and diplomatic affairs.
Charlotte is a long standing and active champion of corporate sustainability practices, a frequent top-level Speaker, commentator and writer of sustainability, ESG and energy-related matters.
She has proactively been shaping the agenda and engaged in the launch of several collaborative partnerships including Oil and Gas Climate Initiative, Climate and Clean Air Coalition, Oil and Gas Methane Partnership, the Nordic CEOs for a sustainable future and the Global E- sustainability initiative.
She is the recipient of Devex's Leadership award for her contribution to international development and was recently ranked as one of the world's leading Chief Sustainability Officers. Ilham Sunhaji is the Head of Corporate Strategy and Research for Malaysian Petroleum Resources Corporation (MPRC). She is responsible for formulating strategies and policy recommendations on oil, gas and energy industry. Prior to MPRC, she was Senior Vice President at PEMANDU Associates, specialising in development and execution of organisation and national transformation plans. She read International Studies (Global Security) and Political Science at University of Wisconsin-Madison, US and is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Business Administration at SEGI University, Malaysia. Her personal mission is to solve the energy trilemma which is to ensure affordable energy cost for the rakyat, while taking into account environment sustainability and long-term energy security for the nation.

Sharifah Zaida Nurlisha received her Bachelor of Electrical Engineering (BEng (Hons)) and Master of Business Administration (MBA) degrees from Nottingham University, England.
She started her career as an Instrument Engineer at Sime Engineering Sdn Bhd in 1990 before
moving to the discipline of Project Management with MMC Oil & Gas Engineering Sdn Bhd in 1995. Her experience includes Project Engineering to Project Management of various types of Oil & Gas contracts as well as serving other positions in the company - HOD Project Management and GM Project Management Services, before holding her current position as Chief Executive Officer of MMC Oil & Gas Engineering Sdn Bhd.
In her 32 years in the oil & gas industry, she has been involved in projects ranging from Conceptual, FEED, Detailed Design, Fabrication/Construction, Hook-up and Commissioning, EPCC and EPCIC projects locally in Malaysia as well as internationally.
She has served actively on the Malaysian Oil & Gas Services Council (MOGSC) for over 10 years served as an elected Executive Committee for the 2010/2012 term, Vice President for 2 terms, 2012/2014 and 2014/2016 and as President for 3 terms, 2016/2018, 2018/2020 and 2020/2022. She is now the Advisor of MOGSC for the 2022-2024 term.
In 2019, she was appointed by the Malaysian Oil & Gas Engineering Council (MOGEC) as one of their Executive Councils for 2019/2021 and was elected Vice President for the 2021/2023 term.
She was also nominated in 2017, by Amazons Watch Magazine/Center for Economic Development and Leadership (CELD) as one of the Top 50 Women Energy Leaders in Developing Economies (Asia/Africa).
In year 2022, she was appointed as the Cluster Head (Engineering & Energy) at the Center for Women Advancement and Leadership (CWAL), Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) for the year
2022/2024.
In the same year, she was also appointed as the Chairman of the Women Technologist Chapter for the year 2022/2024, under the Malaysia Board of Technologists (MBOT) which is responsible for enhancing the dignity and prominence of Technologists and Technicians among women in Malaysia.
Benjamin Nair

Mr. Nair has more than 18 years of experience in the oil and gas and maritime sectors where he worked for major energy companies in various technical and commercial roles, which include trading and shipping businesses in global energy markets.
He represents KASI (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd who are specialists in the execution of port and terminal projects including dry bulk, crude oil petroleum, LNG, containers, marinas, breakwaters, approach channels with an emphasis on validation of port design, risk management and maritime modelling and simulation maritime modelling and simulation.
He also contributes commercial and technical expertise to Eastport Marine Sdn Bhd, and is directly involved with Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) and Petroleum business units. Between 2008 and 2017, Mr. Nair successfully positioned Eastport as a player for LNG and petroleum transfers in the region.
Prior to KASI, Mr. Nair was part of the Olefins Trading & Shipping desk for INEOS who are a global manufacturer of petrochemicals, specialty chemicals and oil products. INEOS comprises 17 businesses each with a major chemical company heritage. Its production network spans 64 manufacturing facilities in 14 countries throughout the world making it the world’s third largest chemical company with sales today around US$47 billion. His role encompassed technical and commercial management of loading/unloading, transhipping and terminal operations of petro-chemical supply chains throughout Europe covering logistics of gas carriers, tankers, gas barges, and rail tank cars.
Mr. Nair holds an honours degree in Maritime Business and Management and is a member of The Nautical Institute, UK as well as the Royal Institute of Navigation, UK. He has also successfully completed a Naval Architecture course with Lloyds Maritime Academy, UK.
Jesselton Jason James

Jesselton Jason James is the co-founder and shareholder of SECOV and has been with the Group since2019. He was appointed to the SECOV Board since 2019 and is currently the Managing Director, SecovEngineering Sdn Bhd, a local company servicing the Oil and Gas Sector. Secov is also one of the first Sabahan oil and gas service company providing expert and specialized task especially in the area of Instrumentation and Control System such as PLC, DCS and SCADA. In addition to that, He also hold the title Corporate Advisor to Hub Vantage Sdn Bhd, an affiliate company that is a specialist for Electrical, Motor and Generator to the Oil and Gas, Petrochemical and General Industry in Sabah.
He undergo his tertiary education in Diploma of Nautical Studies in Malaysian Maritime Academy (ALAM) and holds a Certificate of Competency for Watchkeeping Officer of 500 GT and more from the Malaysia Maritime Department (JLM) . He then undergo his post graduate studies and completed his executive Master in Business Administration from Cybernetics International College of Technology.
He had almost 10 years of experience in sailing, port operations, transfer operations and maritime management. He began his career in 2011 as a Deck Cadet with EMAS MARINE (Singapore) Pte Ltd. He then worked with Belait Shipping (Brunei) Ltd, Standford Marine (Dubai) LLC, Maersk Drilling Ltd, Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd from 2013 to 2018 where he had hold various technical position on those company prior to founding SECOV. In 2022, He was appointed as one of the Technical Advisor for Sabah Oil and Gas Development Corporation (SOGDC). Subsequently he was appointed by Sabah Oil and Gas Service Council (SOGSC) as the Protem council Vice President (II). He is instrumental to assist in the effort of the state government aspiration through SMJ Sdn Bhd-SOGSC Engagement. He is passionate to ensure the up-scaling and enhancement of capabilities for local Sabah OGSE Players.
In addition to his corporate works, he is actively involved in various NGO group. He is one of the committee members and Liaison Officer for Sabah West Coast Division of Pertubuhan Pelaut Sabah(Seafarers Association Of Sabah (SEAS). SEAS serves as a platform to voice out to the needs and welfare for the seafarers from Sabah.. In Addition to that, He is currently the Secretary for Kelab Belia Progresif Sabah (KBPS) which is a youth empowerment club focusing in Youth Upskilling for young people around Kota Kinabalu and Penampang
Dr Wei-nee Chen

Speaker for Paper 6: Bursa Carbon Exchange: Accelerating a Net Zero Future
Dr. Wei-nee Chen holds a Bachelor Degree in Computer Science from the University of Canterbury, a Master of Business Administration from Universiti Tun Abdul Razak, and a Doctor of Business Administration from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. She was formerly the Chief Strategic Officer of the Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) of Malaysia from October 2011 until September 2020. From September 2020 to August 2022, she joined Hibiscus Petroleum Berhad, Malaysia's first publicly listed independent oil & gas exploration and production company, to pursue her passion in energy transition under the capacity of the Vice-President of New Energy Ventures. Prior to SEDA, from December 2005 to mid-2011, Dr. Wei-nee served in the capacity of a Technical Advisor in the Malaysia Building Integrated Photovoltaic (MBIPV) Project; a project by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and administered by the Malaysian Government. In her earlier career days, she worked in New Zealand for 10 years in various industries within the IT sector. Today, Dr Wei-nee is known for her deep passion for climate change and energy transition.
In August 2022, she became the Executive VP and Head of Carbon Market of Bursa Malaysia Berhad to implement the Bursa Carbon Exchange (BCX), which is the country’s first exchange for a voluntary carbon market.
Dr Helena Varkkey
Associate Professor, Environmental Politics, Department of International and Strategic Studies, Universiti Malaya.
Speaker for Paper 7: Opportunities for Methane Reduction in the O&G Sector in support of Malaysia's Climate Goals
Dr Helena Varkkey is an Associate Professor of Environmental Politics at the Department of International and Strategic Studies, Universiti Malaya. Her areas of expertise include transboundary haze governance in Southeast Asia, global palm oil politics and the politics and governance of climate change. Her monograph on “The Haze Problem in Southeast Asia: Palm Oil and Politics” was published by Routledge in 2016. Her latest book is a collection of essays on the politics of haze and the environment in Southeast Asia called “The Forests for the Palms” published by ISEAS Singapore in 2021. Dr Helena has almost two decades of experience in qualitative research, including conducting fieldwork and interviews among various government and non-government stakeholders, and has built up extensive research networks in countries across ASEAN. She has edited and produced reports for the Academy of Sciences Malaysia, UNICEF, and the ASEAN Secretariat. She is currently the lead researcher for an Environmental Defense Fund research project on "COP26 Global Climate Pledges: Promoting Transparency, Public Engagement and Progress on Methane Emissions in Malaysia"

Ts. Faiz Latip is the Founder & CEO of Semarak Training, pioneer of Malaysia’s integrated
professional training provider to Energy industry. The organisation is a PETRONAS licensed
company and HRD Corp registered training provider which presently provides over 150 in-
demand coursesin the key areas of Oil & Gas, Energy Transition, Metering & Allocation, Digital
Transformation, Risk Management and Business.
He was elected and currently serving as the Chairman of Competency & Training Working
Group (CTWG) of The Malaysian Oil & Gas Services Council (MOGSC) for term 2021/2022. In 2018, he represented MOGSC to launch OGLearn - The Malaysia's 1st Oil & Gas Training Portal to improve the training search process and empower Malaysian training businesses.
Faiz is a former Wireline Services Field Engineer with Baker Hughes and he has completed the
intensive 6-month engineering training in Dubai, U.A.E. He acquired field experience in
PETRONAS's Exploration & Production project at Sabah's offshore.
Graduated with Bachelor Degree of Petroleum Engineering from Universiti Teknologi
Malaysia (UTM), he has also served as the President of Society of Petroleum Engineers UTM
Student Chapter and led it to win the global recognition and award by Society of Petroleum
Engineers (SPE) International; 2013 Outstanding Student Chapter (only 7 recipients in the
world) and 2013 Gold Standard Award.
He is a HRD Corp certified trainer, a registered Professional Technologist (Ts.) with Malaysia
Board of Technologist (MBOT) and a member of Energy Institute (EI), Society of Petroleum
Engineers (SPE) and Malaysian Oil & Gas Services Council (MOGSC).
